Email is great - you can track back and don't have to scramble for a pencil and take notes on a piece of scrap paper - but sometimes it's just easier [and friendlier] to speak to each other.

If a face-to-face meeting is not practical, then the old dog and bone can often save a lot of time - plus most of boing work alone, so it's nice to know there are other humans out there still!
